Great for first time sewers
I wanted to learn to sew and after debating for a long time the sales associate at Hancock Fabric advised me that this was the best machine for first time sewers and boy was she right! I love love love my sewing machine! It is so very easy to use and just right for me! Couldn't be happier.

New Machine after 15 years
I am an experienced seamstress and had my last machine for about 15 years. I was continually having problems with the front loading bobbin and swore I would never own another one like that again. Got the Brother LS-590 yesterday and cannot believe how easy it is to load the bobbin both with thread and then into the machine itself! I sewed the entire afternoon with 4 differenct colors of thread requiring changing the bobbin each time and never had a single issue!! Wish I had gotten this a long time ago!!!

Use this in sewing class - great!
I use these in my sewing classes. I have 4 of these and have used them over a year with over 50 students and most of them kids. Lots of use and they work great. I recommend this one for any beginner student or anyone that would like a great basic machine .. inexpensive and inexpensive to maintain as well.

Great Machine for button holes
I have two Brothers sewing machines and I love this one the best. Because I am getting back into sewing after learning it in school over 20 yrs ago and learning to make button holes for the first time. I use this machine to make button holes in clothes that does not require it. I am comfortable using this machine. Now I am ready to upgrade to a digital machine and pass this one to my daughter. But it has to be a Brothers machine of course.

Great Machine
My 20+ year old sewing machine wasn't working well, so I wanted a new machine for the repairs and minor sewing that I do. This new machine does everything I wanted and the needle threader is a "dream". The machine sews quietly and is simple to understand. I never had a Brother machine before and am very pleased with my choice. I would recommend this machine to everyone.

Great beginner machine!
This is the very first sewing machine I bought last september.. So far it has done everything I wanted plus more! The one thing I haven't figured out how to work on this machine is Shirring... other than that is great machine for a great price!!!

Beginer Machine for Grand Daughter
My Grand daughter received this for her birthday and was quickly sewing up a storm. The ease of operation and simplicity of the machine were right for her. I would recommend this for beginners and for a second machine. It is light weight and easy to operate.

Not "roomy" enough
I got a similar Brother machine as a gift a few years ago. I don't like that the area between the needle and the machine body is very small. I use mine for mending clothes such as jeans. It's very hard to manuever the pants around in the small area. I wouldn't have bought this for myself. I liked the self threading needle but it broke & I have no idea where to find replacement part.

Excellent value. Great starter machine.
I selected the Brother LS-590 for my 6-year-old daughter because it was quiet, had nice stitches, evenly fed the fabric, had a drop-in bobbin, light, thread cutter, automatic needle threader and 1-step button hole. Since it is a single speed machine, I rigged her foot pedal to limit her sewing speed until she gets more comfortable controlling the fabric. She made a doll skirt 1 hour after we got the machine home! Perfect machine for a first sewer! This machine will grow with her skills.

Wonderful Beginner Machine
After struggling with a Singer machine for about 5 hours (the lower thread kept jamming), we bought this Brother instead. MUCH better experience. As a beginner sewer, I was nervous but this machine made it so EASY. The drop-in bobbin was what I needed and the stitches are easy to use. The machine does not seem to jam easily and within an hour of opening the box, we had our curtains hemmed (finally!!). If you're looking for a lightweight, easy to use, beginner machine, pick this one!
