Average Review: Hunk of Junk I am a begining sewer and bought this machine to learn on. I had SO many issues with the bobin that it made learning impossible. I spent more of my time threading and fixing bobin issues than actually sewing! I returned the machine and am looking for something more user friendly. Great machine for the price! I bought it on sale and I wasn't expecting much but, was pleasantly surprised when I plugged in this machine and started sewing. It's easy to use, lightweight (I use it as my travel machine), small enough to fit in one of the mini totes and quiet. The 1/4" foot that comes with it is a great deal! First Time Sewing Janome 3128: This is a great little machine and it probably deserves five stars, but I had a minor problem out of the box. The machine would stick in reverse on stitch A and B until the stitch selector was moved. I removed the stitch selector knob and the mechanical interference was clearly visible. After a little coaxing of the cam-plate and arm, the problem disappeared completely. I was able to learn to operate the machine by carefully reading the user manual and studying the pictures. I did my first sewing job today, restitching some Velcro patches to three layers of cotton ripstop. Everything worked great. I thought the foot-control had enough range from fairly slow (~6 stitch/sec) to very fast. I am a 59-year old male who always wanted to little odd-jobs, like hemming pants. This unit is compact, fits well on my small table, and stores easily. I recommend it highly. Great machine for low price! My daughter bought this machine and while I was trying to teach her how to use it I was very impressed. It sews like a dream - just like my Elna Quilters Dream machine that cost ten times the price. Yes, the features are minimal, but for a good basic machine at a low price, the Janome is really wonderful. Wow! I love this machine I work at a Hancock's store and I bought this to try it out, now I will not use my old machine anymore. It keeps tension better, it sews through THREE (3) layers of leather plus a layer of Heat and Bond Ultra, (which you aren't supposed to sew through, I know.) This is a wonderful little machine. It has a metal bobbin casing!! There are very few machines that have that. great machine for beginner We bought this machine for our young daughter and have been thrilled with the value and quality. It's a wonderful beginner machine. The only complaint I have is that you only have 3 zigzag stitch widths, but everything else is good. We looked at the low end Bernina and were told that it is incredibly noisy, plus, this Janome was half the price! Compact, Light Weight but Acts Like a Big Machine I love this machine. I purchased a Singer Quick Fix Mending Machine which was a toy which I took back. This Janome 3128 is the real thing. I have a 33Lb New Home and needed something smaller and lightweight for crafts and mending - THIS MACHINE IS GREAT!!!! Nice little machine. I was impressed by the stitch quality and minimal noise this machine has when sewing. The stitch selections are easy to figure out. Too bad there isn't a thread cutter on it. This machine has a front load bobbin which may be preferred by some sewers. The 3128 is priced about the same as the feature-filled Brother LS-590 so definately compare them both if you are looking for a small entry-level machine. Excellent little machine Bought these for my girls for their introduction into sewing. Great portability, too. Janome is quality, but we think this machine is much better than the sew mini. Great quality & value! Very impressed with this machine! My girlfriend and I signed up for quilting classes and wanted something small, but powerful, to tote to and from. The Janome Gem was our first choice, but a bit on the pricey side. We researched and found this one. The price is AWESOME and so is the quality! It is heavy duty, and makes a great tight stitch. Cons: short on accessories that come with it, no needle threader and no thread cutter.(can buy this separately) The rest is a dream for the price! |
